Toshiba Satellite T235 Looks And Design

With Satellite T235′s dimensions measuring 12.7×8.8×1 inches, T235 is a lot thinner than last year’s 1.4 inch Satellite 135. The notebook has been designed to offer consumers a trendy alternative to netbooks. The machine is very much portable as it weighs just 3.8 pounds. Despite being a low priced machine, Satellite T235 looks like an expensive notebook. The lid of the notebook is quite shiny and the glossy surface easily picks up fingerprints.

Despite the thin chassis of the notebook, we were very much impressed by the build quality of the machine. The cover of the screen feels durable and does not flex under pressure. However, the plastics on the screen are very much subjected to scratches. If you want to upgrade the memory of Satellite T235, then it is quite easy. All you need to do is to remove a single screw to get access to the hard drive and RAM. We were a bit disappointed to note that access to the wireless card is not that simple. However, considering the price of the notebook we do not expect the audience to swap wireless cards.

The 13.3 inches screen is capable of displaying pictures of resolution measuring 1366×768 pixels. The images displayed were sharp, crisp and vibrant. We were happy to note that despite having a glossy panel, the viewing angles of the notebook was quite good. Even at angles of 45 degrees, the images did not wash away. But if there is a strong light source then the images. Youtube and HD videos looked great on Satellite T235. Even while playing 1080p videos the images were very sharp and detailed. One of the great things which we noticed while playing videos was that there was very little visual notice. We were able to notice the fine details on a person’s skin.

One of the great features of Satellite T235 is is chrome colored deck keyboard. The base and the keys of the keyboard are both constructed out of matte chrome and the palm rest area above the keyboard sports a magnificent shiny surface with a bit of rough texture. The palm rest is one of the most comfortable ones which we have tested in recent times. The keyboard is one of the best that we have tested in recent machines. The keys are well spaced out and gave us a great typing experience. It offered strong tactile feedback and there was no flex at all. The keys have a flat surface and typing noise was minimal.

The 3.3×1.5 inch touchpad gave the right kind of resistance and allowed us smooth navigation. The touchpad supports multi-touch gestures and you can easily glide your fingers through the touchpad. The couple of discrete mouse buttons provided us a good tactile feedback and they did not feel stiff.

Toshiba Satellite T235 Heat

A notebook of this category is likely to spend most of the time in your lap so it is important that there are no heating issues with the laptop. Fortunately for us, T235 stayed relatively cool in our testing. After streaming HD videos we found the touchpad and the keyboard within comfortable temperature. We also did not find any warm spots at the bottom or in side of the machine.

For a budgetary consumer notebook, selection of ports is fairly good. On the right side of the machine, you get a Kensington lock slot, an Ethernet port, a VGA out connection, headphone jack and a couple of USB ports. On the left side you get an HDMI port, a 6-in-1 memory card reader and an eSATA/USB combo port. With the ports you can charge your MP3 player or phone. The machine also features a VGA webcam which is good during video conference. The webcam however, did not impress us as our face appeared a little blurry.

Quality of speakers is above average as the maximum volume output is not loud enough to fill a room with clear sound. The low volume of the speakers is accredited to the fact that they are located at the bottom front edge of the notebook. The small size of the speakers are another reason for its low volume. With a 1.2 GHz Intel Pentium U5400 processor, and 5400 rpm hard drive, we do not expect the machine to give very high end performance as some of machines with high end specs. Overall the performance of the machine is quite good considering its price. The hard drive booted Windows 7 Premium in just a little over than 60 seconds.
